The Abduction of Nature

“This is a short piece talking about the two poems and songs Big Yellow Taxi and Field Below, I will compare their mood/tone and their meaning of all four pieces” The poem’s Big Yellow Taxi and Field Below are not just poems; there have been multiple music artists who have actually sang these poems as songs. The two poems both link to the same meaning, which happens to be “Missing Nature”.

They both talk about how they both miss nature, Big Yellow Taxi talks about how their use to be a beautiful place of nature, then they paved a parking lot but they actually meant a parking lot as a big city. Also in the poem Field Below the woman talks about how she lives in a big city that’s boring and she misses the country with fields and everything. So both of these poems talk about how they miss nature.

The mood and tone for the poems are sad, they both miss nature and they want it back. For example in Big Yellow Taxi they say “You don’t know what you got until it’s gone” which just by the tone you can tell they have a sad tone. But in the song Big Yellow Taxi has a different type of tone, it makes you have mixed emotions when you read the poem then listen to the song because the song has more of a happy tone but the poem is more sad. Now in Field Below the song and poem both have the same tone sad. So these poems both show us that they miss nature a lot and they really want it back. Both the poems and songs show a great amount of master piece.
