The Unique Setting of Guns For General Washington

“This is a text analysis piece on how the setting of Guns for General Washington is very important and how it fits into the story very strongly”

Guns for General Washington is based in the1700’s were two brothers; Will and Henry Knox and their men need to bring supplies to General Washington from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston for them to win the battle in Boston. They needed to travel over 300 miles to arrive in Boston, while going through swamps, thick forests, and over icy lakes.

The setting in this story is very important because if it took place in the days that we now live in the 21 century, this journey wouldn’t be as difficult as it was in the 1700’s. They would have known of different ways to arrive that in the way that they originally did in the book.

The setting in Guns for General Washington affects the plot in multiple ways. If the men had to travel 300 miles with over 600lbs of equipment in the 21 century, they wouldn’t be taking horses; they would be taking semi trucks, boats, or even planes. Another thing that would be different is that the men wouldn’t be traveling over ice, and through thick forests they would be traveling on roads.

If the setting happened to be in the 2000’s it would change the characters dramatically, because the people probably wouldn’t be making their men take the supplies, General Washington would pay other people to bring it to him so they could win the battle. But overall the whole story would be a lot easier to get the supplies to General Washington than it was in the original story.

In the end the setting of Guns for General Washington is very important because without have this type of setting it would be impossible to create such a good story.
